Beat The Heat

July 29, 2011

I was watching the Weather Channel yesterday when they showed a map of the country and announced:

“So things aren’t looking too bad for the next few days. Unless you look at Raleigh, North Carolina.

Yeah. It’s, like, hot here and stuff.

On days like this, you need to do your best to beat the heat.

You don’t run outside (unless you have a death wish or are interested in finding out what heat stroke feels like).

So instead, you have a date with Jillian Michaels.

You don’t do anything that doesn’t involve air conditioning.

Meaning, you go to a matinee showing of Ryan Gosling’s abs a new movie with a great ensemble cast.

You don’t eat anything that involves turning on the stove or oven.

So instead, you make Hugh Jass salads with lettuce, red peppers, mozzarella cheese, beans, and fresh tomatoes, basil, and cucumbers from the garden that isn’t yours, but that you’re free to raid.

You don’t bake (remember, that involves turning on the oven).

So instead, you go to Goodberry’s for frozen custard.

(Vanilla with Heath Bar pieces. Obviously).

It may be hot, but if you know how to beat the heat, it isn’t so bad ; )

How are you beating the heat right now?

I’d eat ice cream at every meal if I thought that was acceptable!

DC was 102 with a heat index of 106 so better that you be with Nick in his heat than without him in yours!

I’ve got to say, I think the one thing that is exempt from all hot rules is french fries. I will eat them any day, any time, anywhere (like at dinner last night, for example). Other than that, fresh or frozen fruit is the way to go! And for some reason, I like carbonated water better than regular on hot days? But who knows–I’m weird.

Haha, you’re right Carly, better that we’re waiting out this heat wave together!

I guess I’m the same way with ice cream in winter as you are with french fries in summer. It can be the coldest day of the year and a blizzard, and I will still happily eat a bowl of ice cream. We can be weird together : )

Let’s not be complaining about the heat. At least there is no shoveling involved. I’ll take this over winter anytime.
